Admissions and Enrollment A Montessori education is a commitment for everyone involved with the student. The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes pledges that the school will be dedicated to the education of your child. Parents are encouraged to be active partners in the education and development of their child at The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes. Prospective parents observe the classes, tour the facilities, and meet with the admissions personnel during the inquiry phase. The parents identify what their educational goals are for their child, and the school defines the Montessori Method and its power to help a student reach those goals. This matching of goal and method creates the foundation for the family-school partnership. The inquiry exchange provides opportunities to observe classes in session, talk with education staff, and ask questions regarding enrollment. Applications for enrollment are accepted throughout the year with a $75 non-refundable
application fee which places the child in a waiting pool. Interviews with the child and visits with the parents are scheduled during the annual spring-summer enrollment period or when there is a school year opening. Previous school records are required for students applying to the Elementary levels. Balances of age and gender are an element of the Montessori class structure, and maintaining this balance is a factor in determining the appropriate placement and class opening. Enrollment decisions will also take into consideration the educational expectations of the parents, compatibility with the class community, the individual learning needs of the student, and the ability of the school to meet the child's needs with corresponding parental support. The Montessori program is a developmental educational method and each program level builds on the knowledge and experience of the previous level. Each level is a three-year cycle and the enrollment expectation is that children will complete the full cycle from the beginning of the level.
