Montessori Elementary Program builds on
the foundation laid during the Early Childhood years. The
elementary-age child is establishing individual relationships, as
well as learning to be part of a larger community. Social skills are
enhanced through cooperative group activities and students gain
collaborative skills through dialogue, inquiry and group
discussions. Elementary students build self-esteem, concentration,
respect for others, decision-making skills and responsibility. These
are the cornerstones for future successes.
Throughout the Elementary Program, the individualized instruction in
all curriculum areas allows the student to move at a pace
appropriate for his or her ability and interest level.
"Man builds himself
through working with his hands,
but using his hands as the instruments of his ego, the organ of his individual mind and will,
which makes its own experiments face to face with the environment."

ages six to nine years
The Lower Elementary cultural curriculum united in the five Great Lessons
is a springboard for Science, Geography, History, Botany and Zoology
work. Montessori math begins at the most concrete level and works
toward abstraction of concepts. It focuses on the process, coupled
with the necessary memorization of facts.
The language curriculum encompasses reading and writing. In the reading area, special attention is given to phonetic skills, reading comprehension and vocabulary enrichment. In the writing area, emphasis is given to creative expression, as well as to the necessary structure for report writing.

upper elementary:
grades four through six
ages nine to twelve years
The upper elementary curriculum builds on the Great Lesson work with an expectation for in-depth research and integration of academic knowledge and skills.
The individualized approach is balanced with collaborative and group work that challenges the students academically. The complex concepts introduced with concrete materials evolve into the skill application with abstract lessons.
Language, reading and writing skills are applied to work in geography, history and science. The math materials place emphasis on developing mathematical thinking and analysis, while maintaining proficiency with operational skills.
Elementary class hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m.
