August, 2020
Dear Parents of Lower Elementary Room 106, Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at The Montessori Academy! Please review the documents below and return all forms to the office no later than Friday, August 14th. My name is Lydia Dreyer and I am a native of South Bend who has just moved back after living in New Orleans for five years. In New Orleans, I taught Lower Elementary Montessori at Audubon Charter School. The year previous to working at Audubon, I taught traditional education at a school in Harvey, LA. Montessori is my passion and I have been teaching it for four years. I trained at Houston Montessori Center and am thrilled to be taking what I learned there and sharing it with The Montessori Academy. I can’t wait to meet all of my new students. Currently, we are making plans for school to begin on August 24th. Fortunately, we have a large amount of space in the lower elementary which will easily allow for social distancing. Students will be provided a permanent weekly work space. Each child will keep all supplies at their space in a crate. They will also be provided with the necessary materials each day. We are working to get individual works to make things more simple. For example, each student will have their own instructional clock, fraction pieces, and ruler. We are working on getting a stamp game for each student as well as a movable alphabet for those that need it. Doors and windows will be kept open as much as possible. Students will arrive and dismiss through the classroom’s exterior door, and will stay as self-contained as needed. This includes eating lunch in the classroom. Please review the phase-in schedule (below). This allows for an easier transition to the environment. Sincerely, Ms. Lydia Dreyer, Teacher 574-256-5313 ext. 229 ldreyer@tmael.org Phase-In Schedule Walker Permission Form |
